Annual Report 2007: FY July 1, 2006-June 30, 2007
Technical Advisory Committee
The Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) will provide information to AAPG technical program committees on current technical trends and topics in petroleum geoscience and related disciplines. The committee will recommend resources for development of AAPG programs, including recommendations of volunteers such as speakers and technical program session chairs. In addition the Technical Advisory Committee will be asked from time to time to provide technical information and resources to various other AAPG committees, such as the Distinguished Lecturer and Research committees.
TAC members have taken on several duties since July 2006 including the following: AAPG’s current procedures and guidelines for Technical Programs; how to put together a great technical program at North American and international venues; how to select session topics and focus effort; and design training for co-chairs, and finding creative ways to engage the audience. Also in progress are duties for technical program co-chairs, session co-chairs as well as ideas to related programs (e.g., field trips, short courses and workshops).
TAC is working on the following conferences: Cartagena 2008, Geo 2008, San Antonio 2008, Cape Town 2008, Moscow 2008, and Denver 2009 conferences. Each TAC member has volunteered to be a liaison for the Technical Program committee of these conferences. In this role TAC’s provide advice, insight, and mentor, as well as find candidates for 25–30% of session co-chairs to provide diversity to the program across the AAPG world. TAC meets twice each year with additional conference calls as needed.
