Annual Report 2011: FY July 1, 2010-June 30, 2011
Research
Goals
Goals achieved by the Research Committee (RC) during the fiscal year include: (1) seven Hedberg conferences or symposia completed and scheduled,
(2) three or more joint conferences (SEG/SPE/EAGE), with AAPG organizing at least one/year, and (3) major restructuring of the RC to broaden expertise, increase young members (<35 yr.) without losing “corporate memory,” and increase international representation, continue support of (4) Special Interest Groups (Reservoir Deformation & Unconventional Reservoirs).
Progress during Fiscal Year (July 1, 2010–June 30, 2011)
- Conferences completed so far this year include Multi-Disciplinary Examination of an Outcrop and Analog for Exploration and Reservoir Prediction In Deep-Water Depositional Systems – A Field Conference (Approved) with Conveners Peter King, Greg Browne, and Malcolm Arnot
- Applications of Reservoir Fluid Geochemistry (June 8–11, 2010, Vail, CO)
- Critical Assessment of Shale Resource Plays (joint
- AAPG/SPE/SEG/SPWLA, December 5–10, 2010, Austin, TX)
- Natural Gas Geochemisty (May 9–12, 2011, Beijing)

- Applications of Reservoir Fluid Geochemistry, Conveners: Michael and McCaffrey
- Enhanced Geothermal Systems (Spring, 2011 – date and location TBD)
- Estimating Reserves (Geoscience Technology) Conveners: Sneider and Ritter,
- Workshop, GTW; that may become Hedberg, Conveners: Tearpock and Jenkins

Special Interest Groups
Both special interest groups have met during the year and published results of their meetings.
Make-up of the Research Committee
The RC now consists of 44 members: 25 industry, 8 services, 10 academia, 1 government. This includes 3 student members and 5 new young professionals (developed with the aid of the AAPG Young Professionals Committee). In addition, we have 2 AAPG Representatives. We now have a Committee Co-Chair serving on the Technical Advisory Committee and have Committee members serving as representatives to the AAAS & AAPG Education Committee.
