History of Petroleum Geology
Since August 2010 the committee’s membership increased from five to eleven members.
Meetings
The committee held its annual meeting in Houston on April 12, 2011, during the 2011 AAPG ACE. Discussions between committee members in the course of the year have taken place via personal contacts, phone calls or email.
HoPG at the 2012 AAPG ACE in Long Beach
Two HoPG activities have been proposed: a HoPG session to be chaired by Stephen Testa and a historical field trip organized and led by Don Clarke. Both still require the formal approval of the organizers of the ACE.
HoPG at the 2012 AAPG ICE in Singapore
Hans Krause made personal contact with the ICE organizing committee in order to consider having a HoPG session devoted to the history of oil and gas developments in Southeast Asia, which began in Indonesia in the late 1800’s.
2017 HoPG Exhibit at the Houston Museum of Natural Science
The committee has proposed having a historical exhibit in conjunction with AAPG’s 100th Anniversary. Janet Combes is heading this effort and initial contacts at the museum have been made; reception has been positive.
Historical Highlights series in the AAPG Explorer
This new series began in February 2011 and four articles (on the North Sea, Sarawak, Colombia and Saudi Arabia) have been published so far. It is hoped that it will become a regular, monthly feature in this popular AAPG magazine.
Online Compilation of all memorials published by AAPG
The project is being carried out by the AAPG Datapages team. It is being funded by the AAPG Foundation and it is expected that memorials will be online before end 2011.
Possible Joint Activities with the Petroleum History Institute (PHI)
Clinton Tippett and Stephen Testa have made initial contact with the PHI not only for Long Beach in 2012 but also for the AAPG ACE in Pittsburgh in 2013.
