Petroleum reservoirs within a spiculite-dominated depositional sequence: Cowley Formation (Mississippian: Lower Carboniferous), south-central Kansas

A unique petroleum reservoir

The Cowley Formation of southern Kansas contains oil and gas in spiculite-dominated reservoirs. Controls on reservoir development and heterogeneity in the spiculites are described in this paper. Depositional and diagenetic models serve as templates for future exploration in similar reservoirs.

Three-dimensional kinematic modeling of reversible fault and fold development

3-D basin modeling in complex settings

Explorations in deeper and structurally complex formations are problematic because they stretch the capabilities of existing 3-D software. This paper focuses on a possible solution – a reversible kinematic approach to deform and restore faulted and folded structures.

Multiscale Stratigraphic Analysis of a Structurally Confined Submarine Fan: Carboniferous Ross Sandstone, Ireland: Discussion & Reply

Ross Sandstone: lake or marine

The Ross Sandstone was deposited in a large, shallow freshwater, equatorial lake shelf located in a broad foreland basin, according to Higgs, and is a poor outcrop analog for structurally confined submarine fans. Pyles examines Higgs’ criticisms and suggests that this reinterpretation is not justified.
