Earnings in Perspective: Who Owns Big Oil?

An outstanding compilation of information that compares earnings, investments, and taxes among various industries.  This information won’t surprise most folks in the petroleum industry, but will come as a surprise to most of your friends and neighbors.  For example:  Averaged over 2008-2013, the Oil and Gas industry’s effective tax rate was the highest among 9 major industry sectors, at 44.5%.  Compare this to 21.29% for the pharmaceutical industry and 25.5% for computers.  Third quarter earnings (% of net income per dollar of sales) for oil and natural gas for 2014 fall in at 8.9 cents; pharmaceutical earnings were 20.7 cents and computer earnings  were 21.7.  The charts used in this report can be put into a PowerPoint format for presentation.
