Environmental Geophysics Committee-DEG

The DEG mourns the recent loss of the EG chair, Ernie Morrison.

The main subject matter of current interest is induced seismicity. Work on the AAPG annual convention (ACE 2019) in San Antonio is underway. Abstracts are due in mid-October. Theme 6, Energy Sustainability and the Environment, includes a call for papers concerning induced seismicity.

Last year’s convention in Salt Lake City, Utah (May 2018), had an induced seismicity technical program consisting of nine papers. The topics ranged from an induced seismicity update from Oklahoma to understanding high resolution microseismicity in deep underground mines. Not only is induced seismicity of interest at our national meeting, but sectional meetings such as the Southwest section (Dallas, Texas, April 2019) and the Mid-Continent section (Witchita, Kansas, October 2019), will also be interested in papers on induced seismicity. Watch for their call for papers.
