Magoon

 

Leslie B. Magoon is a Consulting Professor in the Department of Geological and Environmental Sciences, Stanford University and consults on the petroleum system. He received his B.S. in Biology (’64) and his M.S. in Geology (’66) from the University of Oregon.

Leslie B. Magoon is a Consulting Professor in the Department of Geological and Environmental Sciences, Stanford University and consults on the petroleum system. He received his B.S. in Biology (1964) and his M.S. in Geology (1966) from the University of Oregon.

Mr. Magoon worked eight years for Shell Oil Company in exploration and 30 years with the U.S. Geological Survey. In 2005 he became a co-originator of the Stanford University Industrial Affiliates Program Basin and Petroleum System Modeling (BPSM) to train M.S. and Ph.D. students in the techniques of modeling.

From 1981, he has investigated and popularized the petroleum system through talks, courses, and AAPG Memoir 60, The Petroleum System: From Source to Trap, which received the R.H. Dott Sr. Award in 1996. Published in 1994, this popular book was reprinted twice and sold out all 4,000 copies and is now only available on CD.
