Nominate a deserving geoscience professor today!

Application Deadline: 11:59 PM (PST), 15 March 2018

Nominate a deserving professor whose contributions to geoscience education are pure gold.

Few metals on earth hold more value than gold. Gold is the noblest of metals, prized for its rarity, its durability and its brilliant reflection of light.

Nominations are now open for the Inspirational Geoscience Educator Award (IGEA) honoring a college or university professor who sets the gold standard in earth science education. These rare educators inspire students with their passion for geoscience and offer motivation and mentorship to students in their pursuit of geological careers.

In addition to their ability to inspire, motivate and mentor students, nominees also are evaluated on “the depth and breadth of concepts” in their course content, “creativity of presentation and balanced treatment of information regarding societal need, cost and environmental impacts” (AAPG Foundation, Requirements and Guidelines).

The 2018 Inspirational Geoscience Educator Award is presented at AAPG’s Annual Convention and Exhibition (ACE), held this year in Salt Lake City. The winner receives recognition at the Foundation Chairman’s Reception, a cash prize and a beautiful commemorative plaque. The AAPG Foundation funds the IGEA, previously known as the Professorial Award, and is one of two Excellence in Teaching Awards. The Foundation also funds the Teacher of the Year Award, an annual award that recognizes one outstanding K-12 geoscience educator in the United States.

Nominations for the IGEA are accepted and encouraged from students and faculty members and are open until March 15. For more information on requirements and qualifications, please visit the AAPG Foundation website, email a Programs Coordinator or call (918) 560-9426.
