International Energy Summit 2016

"Defining Exploration Pathway"

Jogjakarta, Indonesia, 1 June 2016

International Energy Summit or IES, is an annual program organized by the AAPG student chapter from Universitas Gadjah Mada, Jogjakarta, Indonesia. The first event was held in 2014. The idea of this event was inspired by this student chapter's concern about future energy needs. The IES event shares state of the research, knowledge, and experience about petroleum energy issues. The themes have since focused on “Petroleum Exploration and Development”, “Exploring Indonesia’s Energy in 21st Century : Strategy, Innovation, Challenge”, and “Defining Exploration Pathway". IES’ participant targets are multidisciplinary students and professionals who are concerned about geoscience and energy,  to gather in one forum to understanding the challenge of the future energy needs.

The 2016 event was held on  June 2016 in at The Grand Tjokro Hotel in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Under the theme "Defining Energy Pathway”, the event included a one-day course and panel session. A presentation of AAPG Asia Pacific was delivered by Mrs. Mellinda Arisandy of Petronas on behalf of Mr. Peter Grant, President of AAPG Asia Pacific Region, who couldn’t attend this event because of personal reasons.  His presentation focused on “Dealing with Energy Issues : Insight and Strategies”. Mr. Doddy Priambodo (Senior Vice President Exploration of Pertamina) spoke on “The Next Exploration Potential in Eastern Part of Indonesia” and Professor Robert Hall (Professor and Director of Southeast Asia Research Group, University of Holloway, UK) explained about “Indonesia Tectonic and Resources”. The session closed with a panel session where all the speakers shared ideas and opinion about future energy development. IES 2016 was a big success and attended by 142 participants.

The UGM chapter of AAPG hopes to again present IES in 2017 with another awesome concept and amazing speakers, so make sure you join us next year!
