Pakistani students benefit from teachings of AAPG Visiting Geoscientist.

Syed Tariq Hasany of Pakistan Association of Petroleum Geologists Visits Nine Pakistani schools

As part of the AAPG Visiting Geoscientist program, I visited four Pakistan Universities and one professional forum during my vacation in December 2015. The topic of my talk was “Unconventional Exploration, what we need to know in shale oil and gas”. I also showed two short documentaries about the shale oil and gas production and hydraulic fracking.

The schools that benefitted from my talk were Punjab University, University of Sargodha, University of Engineering and Technology (Lahore), University of Peshawar, Comsats, University of Karachi, University of Sindh, Bahria University, Federal Urdu University of  Science and Technology, NED University.  Some schools combined attendance with other schools.  Here are excerpts of my experience:

Lecture attendance:  70, Students: 55, Faculty 5, Industry 10

In this event, students from various schools attended : University of Karachi, Sindh University, Jamshoro, Federal Urdu University of Science and Technology (FUUST) Karachi, NED Engineering Karachi and Technology and Bahria University, Karachi.

A workshop was also conducted on same day after the lecture in which maps and well log were provided to define areas good for oil and gas and determine the volume (resources) of oil and gas in each block. PAPG has awarded the quickest solution provider a cash award (Rs 5000 or about 40USD), which was won by University of Karachi.
