Institute Technology Medan (ITM) is a private university and was established since 1960. This institute was mainly only for Civil and Mechanic Engineering since 1960. The mining and geological departments were just started in 1986.

During my vacation to Medan, North Sumatra Indonesia, I spent one day seminars for the AAPG Student Chapter of Institute Technology Medan. More than 30 participant were joint the lecture. They are very antusiastic and very keen to know the subjects which is of course, is new for them.
Due to the ITM location is too far and too remote from central goverment in Java, lack of geologist willing to come to this university. However, since the student joint to the AAPG Student Chapter, more geoscience experts from Jakarta (Indonesia) and also from other country come and give a seminars, short lectures, and short courses.
My fisrt visit to this university in 30 April 2006 was fun. You may see how these students enjoy the simple excercise that I gave. It may not make them to be a reservoir geologist, but they will enjoy to be a geologist.
