Technical Program Overview
The 3P Technical Program will consist of 15 sessions including 125 oral presentations and more than 150 poster sessions which are expected to cover all aspects of the geology and petroleum geology of the Arctic sedimentary basins. In addition there will be two field trips and a series of workshops or short courses.
The Conference will be preceded by a one-day bus field trip to several geological sites close to Moscow where remarkable key sections of the Paleozoic and Mesozoic rocks that form the sedimentary cover of the Russian Craton are exposed at queries. For participants not attending the field trip, there will be several short courses and/or workshops focusing on specific topics of the Arctic petroleum geology and exploration such as High Arctic drilling and the role of permafrost in Arctic exploration.
The Technical Program will commence with a morning Plenary Session (five invited papers) providing a comprehensive insight into the recent results achieved by both petroleum industry and scientific community in the Arctic, including problems which still remain to be addressed. The following afternoon and next two days will provide participants with unique opportunities to attend a variety of oral and poster presentations concerning a broad range of issues of the Arctic and Sub-Arctic geology and petroleumpotential. Themain emphasis will be given to the Arctic offshore petroliferous basins which represent the ultimate frontier. The relevant presentations will be grouped by region into six sessions:
- US Chukchi Sea, North Slope, Beaufort Sea
- Canadian Arctic Islands, Baffin Bay
- East Greenland, Western Norway
- Barents Sea
- Northern West Siberian Basin, Kara Sea
- Laptev Sea, East Siberian Sea, Russian Chukchi Sea
The remaining sessions will address fundamental problems of the Arctic plate tectonic history and paleogeography, which are thought to control hydrocarbon systems and play elements. Two sessions will present recent industry achievements and outline the challenges faced by the companies engaged in Arctic exploration and development.
The conference will be concluded by another field trip—this time to a remote location in the middle of Timan-Pechora Province—designed to bring participants to a unique spot where the heavy oil is mined in a shaft.
